So you want a hairstyle that isn't short, but still isn't too long? Believe it or not, Goldilocks, you can get what you want. The "medium-length" hairstyle genre — one that hits below the chin but not further than the collarbone — is possibly the most versatile of them all. You can pull your hair up into a topknot without it being too heavy and giving you a headache, but you also have room to create a ton of different looks.

Bonus: This length looks good on everyone. To help you customize your new cut, we talked to stylist and learned some of the best celebrity-inspired options for each and every face shape.

    For Heart-Shaped Faces
Now's your time to take the plunge and get bangs. "The best medium-length haircut for a heart-shaped face would be to have lots of layers or a side-swept bang," Nate Bova, a celebrity hairstylist at Warren Tricomi Salon in New York City, says. The variation in length helps to create a balance in relation to the bottom half of the face. Look to a celebrity like Kerry Washington for inspiration.

    For Oval-Shaped Faces
Bova has quite a few options for this particular face shape, as it can complement many different looks. Our suggestion? Go for a blunt cut in a super straight style like Kim Kardashian.

    For Round-Shaped Faces
Bova says that layers and waves can have a contouring effect on round face shapes, drawing attention to the cheekbones. He also mentions that bangs really suit this face shape, bringing attention to the eyes and brows. Chrissy Teigen's hairstyle features both fringe and subtle, cascading layers.

    For Square-Shaped Faces
"The best medium-length haircut for someone with a square face shape is the one length lob," Bova says. "Worn straight or wavy, this look will complement your bone structure." Take this pic of Olivia Wilde into the salon as your inspo.

Strawberry blonde looks different from every angle, thanks to its golden quality that refracts light. In other words, it's just pretty. Another bonus is that the color comes in a variety of shades, complimenting most complexions. It can be classic like Jessica Chastain (a real life Jessica Rabbit), or look distinctively modern like Keke Palmer's warm peachy blonde. There's a whole spectrum of strawberry blonde to explore, so click through to see our favorites here.

    Karrueche Tran

Dark russet roots fade into a softer auburn accented with butterscotch blonde.

    Amy Adams

A soft cast of beige blonde gives the actress's signature fiery strands a cool, summery tone.

    Queen Latifah

An allover cinnamon blonde with a few brighter flecks around the face.

    Jessica Chastain

While the base is still all ginger, all the time, subtle tawny highlights provide a sunny lift.

    Haley Bennett

Here's a pristine example of a strawberry blonde that leans more blonde than strawberry. A warmish gloss could give brighter blondes a similar effect.

We've obsessed over the lob, the perfect bangs, and the pixie, but what about the asymmetrical bob? A cut that shorter on one side than the other has seen a revival thanks with Kim Kardashian West, Lucy Hale, and Badgal Riri. Gone are the days of the bob's nicknames like "I want to talk to the manager" haircut and "business in the back, party on the side" style. The smear campaign is a thing of the past, and the style is getting a fresh 2018 spin. It's back, it's fun, it's uneven. It's time to try the asymmetrical bob.

    Juliet 'Juju' Casteneda

Casteneda's blunt ends accentuate the cut's futuristic unevenness.

    Dua Lipa

The sleek and slicked-back look looks streamlined tucked behind the ears.

    Gabrielle Union

A bangin' bob. Union's very deep side part lends jaunty dimension.

    Carmen Soo

The actress rocked the bob on the red carpet of thew new film Crazy Rich Asians. Great film, great haircut.

    Lucy Hale

This bob gets an A+. The Pretty Little Liar adds a soft curl to the ends for a '60s flare.

    Marion Cotillard

We all want French girl style but why stop at the clothes. The French actress' haircut is parfait.

In need of a new look but unwilling to chop bangs? Take matters into your own hands with these 3 hair trends that celebrity hairstylist Clayton Hawkins (the man behind Elizabeth Olsen and Alison Brie) thinks are going to be big for fall 2018. There’s something here for every length, texture, and skill level so start plotting your fall look now.

    The Short Bob

The long bob has reigned supreme for far too long. Hawkins predicts that things are going to come up shorter when fall rolls around. “Stars like Emma Roberts, Yvonne Orji, and Sarah Paulson have chopped their locks chin length and are looking better than ever,” he says. Ask your stylist for a no-fuss, straight-across cut that will work with your natural texture. Be blunt, go blunt.

    The Perm

“Before you panic, understand that perms have come a long way in the past 30 years,” reassures Hawkins. Which is to say he isn’t suggesting you go Sandra D (although that was a great look!) The modern perm is more about beachy waves, fullness, and a loose curl. The new perm formula is also far less damaging than it was in the ‘80s—and stars like Emma Stone and Kerry Washington are spearheading this movement. Whether you need a little more volume or want to go full Carrie Bradshaw, a perm is a great option.

    The '60s Flip

“Inspired by Marlo Thomas’ classic ‘60s hairstyle, the modern flip is sleek, smooth, and flips out just as the ends,” explains Hawkins. It’s the perfect romantic look for fall; just ask Lily Collins and Zendaya. If you’ve had beachy shoulder-to-medium-length waves all summer, this look will take the hair you’re already working with and add shape and dimension.

Although Victoria Beckham has worn her hair anywhere between shoulder- and waist-length over the last decade, I know I'm not alone when I say that I associate the Spice Girl turned fashion designer with the stacked bob hairstyle, and vice-versa. Shorter in the back and gradually longer toward the front, the style was Beckham's go-to in the late 2000s — a few years before her youngest child and only daughter, Harper, was born in 2011. But that hasn't stopped the seven-year-old from taking interest in her mother's most recognizable hairstyle.

On Saturday, Victoria shared a two-photo post of Harper in a bucolic setting, revealing not only an enviable outfit — can I get those boots, equestrian-style pants, and eyelet-sleeve shirt in my size please and thank you? — but a new hairstyle. Typically seen with very long hair, Harper is shown with a dramatically shorter bob. Just like her mother's retired style, it's shorter in the back and longer in the front, its ends sweeping forward. "Hair cut for our baby girl x kisses from Harper x #howchic," Victoria wrote in the caption.

Not quite as meticulously styled or as angular as Victoria's stacked bob, Harper's is proof that the style isn't as dated as I hate to admit I thought it was. It's also proof that a seven-year-old can be #hairgoals to people who haven't been seven in a few decades. Be sure to swipe through on the Instagram post to see it both close-up and from a distance.

It was only a few weeks ago that Victoria's husband and Harper's dad, soccer icon David Beckham, posted a bittersweet photo in which he was giving a long-haired Harper a trim. "Someone’s happy & someone’s not so happy ✂ but I didn’t think it was possible for this little one to look anymore beautiful but ♥" David captioned the black-and-white photo. He might have created a little haircut monster with those initial snips, as it seems to have led to Harper's chic new style.

I'm guessing David wasn't the stylist behind this latest chop, but if another countryside photo posted by Victoria is any indication, he seems A-OK with his daughter's new throwback hairstyle.

The look of thin hair can change dramatically with the power of a scissor — and the right cutting hand. Done correctly, a haircut can take fine strands and create an illusion of cool, woke-up-like-this-status volume. Hair that is thin and falls flat can be a result of many factors — it could be hereditary, caused by changes in your diet, and aging to name just a few. But if you're one of the folks working with thin hair, don't worry, because it's not uncommon: “There are so many celebrities and models out there with thin hair than we realize,” says Lisa Weller, hairstylist and owner of Twirl Salon in San Antonio. Yes, people, in this case, the stars really are just like us. And just like how they can fake a fuller head of hair with the magic of shears and razors, so can you — even if you're not working with an A-list bank account. The first step to faking extra volume starts with, the right cut, and these eight span a number of lengths. Here, we chatted with the pros on how to get it just right.

    Dense Pixie

Sure, there's not a ton of length, but the way a pixie is cut can add some fullness to already-thin strands. “Without much effort at all, it creates the look of dense, full hair,” says hairstylist Adir Abergel, who works with Michelle Williams. “There are endless variations to pixies — when cutting them, I love for my clients to remain their most feminine, sexy self. In order to create a soft appearance, I leave the top section a bit longer around the hairline, especially around the ears.”

    Blunt Bob

Leave the layering behind for this blunt cut that helps you achieve a fuller look. “All the hair that is at the bottom gets cut off so it will have the most density and look super chic,” says hairstylist Jennifer Yepez. For the bluntest of cuts like Bella Hadid’s, “never use a razor unless it’s a straight edge and never use any thinning shears.” Yepez (who is also a Kérastase ambassador,) likes the Kérastase Densimorphose Mousse to perfect a look like this. Apply it from roots to ends of hair with a comb and et voilà — instant body without the weight.

    Angled Bob

“The rule is, the thinner the hair, the shorter and blunter it should be cut,” says Weller. For a fun twist on a classic bob, try one with a slight angle that’s longer in the front and shorter in the back, à la Jada Pinkett Smith. “The blunt ends create an illusion of weight and fullness,” she notes. To give it an extra oomph, scrunch in Oribe Grandiose Hair Plumping Mousse.

    Classic Lob

I like to think of a lob as the kind of hairstyle Goldilocks would choose: It's not too long and it's not too short — it hits perfectly right in the middle. At the salon, ask for a cut that’s right above the shoulders like Margot Robbie’s. Similar to Hadid’s, it’s (surprise, surprise) free of layers and super blunt. If you've got thin hair, consider this cut as it creates the appearance of extra weight on the ends.

    Midlength With Long Layers

Here, Joan Smalls rocks midlength hair with long, choppy layers, which creates movement. But notice that the layers are kept at a minumum, preserving fullness and body. This cut works well for those with thin, textured, and relaxed hair, which holds shape and allows for volume to be emphasized by the various lengths. Look closely and you'll see that Small's layers start at the midway point between the crown and ends. To go the extra mile in making hair look thicker, Teddi Cranford, hairstylist, owner, and creative director of White Rose Collective in New York City, recommends adding hair powder to your regimen.

Uniform Medium Length With Blunt Ends

Say hello to the no-fail haircut that looks good on just about everyone. A medium, one-length haircut with blunt ends (notice a theme?) easily creates the appearance of thick hair. Plus, the longer length allows for more freedom in styling if you want to, say, throw it up in a messy bun or high ponytail. Wondering if this cut will suit your face shape? Cranford isn't so worried. “I think it's more about personal style and a woman’s overall vibe," she notes. "Confidence goes a long way."

    Medium-Length With Side Bangs

According to Yepez, side bangs are a strategic way to frame the face. Suki Waterhouse's medium-length cut serves as the perfect balance for her fringe. Why? Bangs add fullness and serve as a distraction from thin hair, especially at the top. Think about it: side bangs, if you got 'em, are likely the first thing people notice about your hair since they sit at eye-level. To finish off a look like Waterhouse's, add a few spritzes of Kérastase’s VIP Volume In Powder Texturizing Spray. “The key is to make sure you style hair with texture so it appears thicker,” she says. Between salon visits, try the Serum Extentioniste Scalp and Hair Serum — “It targets the hair fiber from root to tip to keep it fortified while repairing split ends."

    Long All-Over

For long hair, over-layering can actually do more harm than good if you want more fullness. Instead, go for one length, as shown on Anne Hathaway. “Stay away from shaggy layers which can make hair look finer than it is,” says Abergel. “I usually cut dry using a bit of Virtue’s Perfect Ending Split End Serum. Having this smoothing serum on the ends allows me to get the most perfect, sharp line in.

If you’ve ever considered getting them, you’ve probably texted “Should I get bangs?” to all of the contacts you have saved in your phone. We get it: There's a lot to consider. Along with the commitment of getting regular trims, bangs come in so many different shapes, layers, and forms. In other words, not all bangs are created equal, and it’s hard to figure out which ones are the best for you.

That’s where our handy guide comes in. We talked to celebrity hairstylists about their tips for choosing the best bangs for your face shape. Keep scrolling if you’re ready to take the plunge and finally let your stylist do the job.

    Rihanna: Square Face

Rihanna’s long, eye-grazing bangs that are tapered on the sides add a soft element to square face shapes. When you’re at the salon, ask your stylist to snip them just below the brows, leaving the heaviest pieces on the sides so they don’t mask your eyes. The center strands can be feathery as a little forehead peeking through is ideal. “Heavy bangs like this need to hit the right place, otherwise, they can easily overwhelm your face,” stylist Andy Lecompte previously said.

    Taylor Swift: Round Face

Lecompte says that gently arching fringe will compliment soft features. Since bangs can make circular faces appear even fuller, the right shape is key. Request a graphic, curved shape that will flatter your bone structure. Thick bangs, rather than wispy versions, will make more of an impact.

    Reese Witherspoon: Heart-Shaped Face

"A heart-shaped face can be a little top heavy. Side-swept bangs have a balancing effect and draw the attention down and towards the eyes," Lecompte previously told InStyle. Your ideal shape is layered, feathered bangs where the shortest pieces hit the arch of your eyebrows, and the longest meet the outer corner of your eyes.

    Dakota Johnson: Oval Face

Good news for oval face shapes: nearly every type of fringe is flattering on you. That being said, airy, pin-straight ones will accentuate your face without feeling bulky.  "Ask for bangs that hit between the brow and the eyelash and are longer on the edges," Johnson’s stylist Mark Townsend previously told InStyle. "That way, you can wear them swept aside or straight with a middle part."

    Emma Stone: Small Forehead

Lecompte says that a sloping asymmetrical fringe will make a short forehead appear stronger and more pronounced. To elongate your brow, ask your stylist to cut your bangs on a steep, swooping, angle that blends into cheek-skimming layers. Although this style requires a deep side-part, it works well on virtually any face shape.

    Kerry Washington: High Forehead

Swingy bangs have a double effect. The style’s thickness conceals the forehead, while the gradual angle opens up and widens the face. "Heavy side-swept bangs that start in the center of the forehead and taper diagonally to a cheek-grazing length," Lecompte previously said. "It’s ok that these bangs start beyond your natural hairline. They’re substantial and need a good anchor."

Pass on the sea salt spray and the platinum blonde: Celebrity hairstylist Riawna Capri says huge haircut and hair color changes are on the way for fall. And we take what Capri says very seriously.

For starters, she's the co-owner of Nine Zero One, one of L.A's coolest, most popular salons — the salon's account itself has over 250,000 followers — and her skill is behind countless iconic celebrity heads of hair. Think Ruby Rose's tousled pixie, Julianne Hough's golden blonde hair, and Nina Dobrev's badass bob game.

So we used our time with Capri to our utmost advantage and quizzed her on what she predicts will be the hottest haircuts and colors for the season ahead. Keep scrolling to ger her rundown on seven trends you'll see absolutely everywhere.

    Soft Blunt Cuts

"I think as far as cuts go, we’re looking more at a stronger line and a more bold line," Capri notes. "I like to call it a soft blunt line." Consider it the opposite of a super piece-y, shattered, layered look. Nina Dobrev's long bob is your best example.

    Golden Blondes

The ice queen look just lost its reign, according to celebrity hairstylist Riawna Capri. "We’re looking for more dimension," she says of blonde for fall. "Some low-lights and utilizing your natural base." Instead of platinum, Capri says to expect more golden, honey-toned blondes.

    Angled Bobs

"The secret to having a young and modern short haircut is having your front pieces being as long as they can be," Capri says. Having longer pieces in the front and a slight angle is what really makes all these bobs worn by stars like Taraji P. Henson and Margot Robbie so enviable. "What really sets a short haircut apart from a soccer mom is having those longer bits in front."

    Pixies

It sounds cliché, but it's so true. "When you’re going to do the pixie, it all comes down to confidence. If you feel confident, you can rock a pixie," says Capri.

After you remind yourself that you can own the bold cut, try a lengthier style similar to Ruby Rose. "She is super into texture and bringing it all forward," she says of Rose.

    Wispy, Curtain Bangs

"I definitely think that bangs will be popping back out for fall," Capri says. If you're feeling like a change but don't want to lose your length, go for a wispy, side-swept, Brigitte Bardot-like fringe style. They're popularly nicknamed "curtain bangs," and you can also look to Camila Cabello for inspiration before to big chop.

"They’re so noncommittal and give you just amount of change. If you don’t like it, you can grow it out within a month," Capri says.

    Multi-Dimensional Brunettes

Ombré is way out, according to Capri. Instead of just making the lengths of your hair lighter, she says to concentrate on adding warmth from root to tip. This creates a super natural, sun-kissed look.

    The New Long Cut

Long hair isn't going anywhere, for the record. However, Capri says that long haircuts will focus more on a clean line and structure, rather than having wispy, piece-y ends. Jennifer Garner's haircut fits the bill because it has plenty of length, but it looks strong, shiny, and healthy.

Google "blonde hair", and you'll see millons and millons of hair photos, none of which look at all the same. And that's because "blonde" is a very broad term that's applied to virtually any hue that's lighter than brown, making for a very confusing conversation with your colorist. To de-mystify the lingo, we broke down virtually every gilded hue across the vast blonde spectrum, so you know exactly what to ask for at your next hair appointment.

    Peach-y Blonde

Emma Stone swapped her signature red hair for this pale-blonde hue that's ever so slightly peach-tinged (peep those subtle blush lowlights).

    Chestnut Blonde

Think of this warm blonde as The Dress of colors—some will swear it's light brown, others will claim it's dark blonde, and yet a third group will tell you to stop critiquing Beyoncé altogether, because it's Beyoncé.

    Light Brown-Blonde

Amber Heard's three-inches of brown roots are made purposeful, not forgetful, thanks to itty-bitty, hand-painted blonde highlights that start at her hairline and snake their way back.

    Practically-Strawberry Blonde

In an ultra-cool, French-girl fashion, Clémence Poésy takes the concept of strawberry blonde and cranks it up to a billion.

    Caramel Blonde

Ciara's mix of butterscotch- and caramel-colored highlights gives new meaning to the phrase "good enough to eat."
